What is balloon art?
To understand what a balloon artist does one must first understand what balloon art is. Balloon art referred to as balloon modeling, sculpture, bending or twisting. This is misleading as these terms do not include work with round balloons. My definition of balloon art is art with balloons. The Googled definition of art is “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.”
Balloon Artist
From the Google definition, a balloon artist is someone who uses balloons to create art. Does this mean that someone who buys a bag of balloons and hops on YouTube is a balloon artist? Yes. My definition of a balloon is a little different. For me, a balloon artist is someone who uses balloons to create art with or without a reference. What I mean is that a balloon artist can create a request using techniques to get a certain look. An example is that I can create almost anything by looking at a picture. I have also learned some sculptures from mentors that I use in my work. As a performer/artist, I also strive to always be improving my skills.
Did you learn this on YouTube?
YouTube is a great website for many things. On YouTube, there are many balloon artists who share their creations with others. My thought is that is a great place to start. When I am at events people ask if I learned balloon sculptures on YouTube. The answer is both yes and no. Yes, because there are several ideas and sculptures that came from YouTube. The answer is no because it is only a very small number of creations when compared to what I make. YouTube teachers teach how to create their creations. It does teach how to think about objects when creating art with balloons or freestyle. Also, there are many techniques that are not published online.
